Be careful
ALERT: we have been made aware of men being attacked in the Blackheath Dips at night when they are cruising/using it as a Public Sex Environment. Please be aware of men approaching you if you are in the area, as on at least one occasion the suspects were armed with a knife.rnIf you have had similar experiences or witnessed anything which may be related you can contact the LGBT Hate Crime Worker at Metro Charity or contact GALOP who are also aware. rnPlease pass this information to other men who have sex with men locally, as they may not be publically out or on forums such as these.rnrnAlso: be aware that the police may be more active in and around the dips so it’s likely men using the area will be stop and searched and are more likely to be interrupted. This in turn could have unwanted consequences of being given tickets or arrested for an offence (especially around drugs, sharps, weapons, fraud, carrying large amounts of cash etc) as well as outraging public decency. Please be aware of your rights around public sex before venturing out.

Uhmmmm
It is funny how none of these incidents appear to have been reported to The Police

Dangerous
Went there to check this out on a Sunday evening, there were a few guys there and had a little fumble. There was one guy who had clearly been drinking and another just standing around watching.

Making my way back out I got ambushed by a gang of maybe 3 or 4 hiding in the bushes near the road, they punched and kicked me, grabbed my phone (luckily I wasn't carrying anything else except a condom or two and some loose change) they got me down on the ground and kicked me in the head and several other places. I started screaming and shouting and they eventually ran off.

Staggered to the road and eventually down to the town covered in blood with a gash in my head. Spent the rest of the night in A+E being patched up, but considering what could have happened I think I got off extremely lucky.

So .. first and last cruising ground experience for me! DON'T go to dark and secluded wooded areas where there will be all sorts of crazies and muggers lurking, unless you think you could take on a gang of 3 or 4 thugs who may or may not have knives. There are much safer alternatives.

Lesson learned... DON'T DO IT.
