Warm and friendly welcome
I made my first visit to Pennine sauna 2 months ago, and was overwhelmed by the warmth of the welcome from mein hosts. I handed over the £10 entrance fee, and was rewarded with a smile and a " thank you ", instead of the grunts proffered by other establishments I have frequented recently.

I was shown to the changing room, and once undressed and wrapped in my towel, I was given a tour of the facilities. After that, I was left to ' play ' with the other guests.
The overall feel of the day ( I had initially only planned to stay for an hour, but ended up staying for 4), was more as if I had been invited to somebody's home for an afternoon with old friends.

I am returning tomorrow ( Wednesday 2nd December ) for an early birthday / Christmas treat. I will be the one with a "HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY " badge pinned to my towel. (Feel free to give me a birthday kiss)

...a MUST if you are mature...
.
Visited again a few days ago – not much has changed - the steam room has been re-located and the old steam room is now a “cool off box” but still with action. The parking is not now so easy as there has been a development on the waste ground in Cromer Street/Blakelock Street, but there is still some parking here if you are early or you can use the car park Bowler Street/Glebe Street.

This place is still a utopia for the mature and those that like them – even if the place is a bit basic.

......UPDATE July 2010...

Still as good as ever - just had a fantastic afternoon ;)

Well worth a visit if you over 40 or are into older men!

.....Original September 2008…

This sauna is mainly for the older among us. It is has fairly basic facilities of a sauna, steam room and 4 resting/darkrooms. They serve very good value home cooked meals in the Lounge/TV room.

Most of the action takes place in the steam room. There are no private cubicles as such, apart from a massage room which can double for private purposes. Consequently, much of the sex is orgiastic.

It pays you to get there as early as possible, as there is some "lunch trade" and as the afternoon progresses it begins to empty (home to the wife, I suppose!)

The third Thursday every month 'Naked in North West' Gay nudist evening 4pm-10.30. Closed on other Thursdays.

Great service
Been in here on a few occasions can be quiet on a Sunday but you will still receive some attention. Met a really nice bloke in here(little fella got tats on his legs, back, arms and chest(think his nickname is Dodgy,he calls everybody trouble). He seems to like the older bloke so if you see him dont be shy just say hello he is very very good. As for the facilities they are basic but clean and if you want something to eat well he food is great

cons
Where to start? Had high hopes for this place having read some reviews.
Tiny. Basically consists of 3 rooms/areas. NO private rooms whatsoever.
Im nearly 60, felt like a teenager in amongst the old fellas!
Came away with a insect bite on ankle area just to round things off, wont be rushing back

A Warm Welcome
Renewed my acquaintance after an absence of several years yesterday (Wednesday). Greeted like a long lost friend by owners John and Hugh with an apology for forgetting my name!!

Standing room only (literally) especially in the steam room with a wide mix of ages and sizes, regulars and visitors.

Would recommend the delicious freshly prepared food and an early arrival to catch the action in the clean and well used facilities.

Finished the day with a trip into central Manchester via the new tramway before hitting the M62 and home. A grand day out...

First visit
WOW, went today for the first time, plenty of 2/3/4/moresum fun every where except lounge area, only down side was 2 people hogging one of the lockable rooms for almost 3 hours, but others were able to watch through the window or holes in the wall. I will be back, when the tram is running it will be an easier journey, and hopefully get busier.

EDIT. Tram from Rochdale to Shaw about 15 mins, should start to get even busier now

Anniversary event
I have been going most Wednesday's for a year now and can't praise highly enough

Never fail to get some action unless for done reason you don't want any (why go!!!)

It does now seem to be attracting some younger guys which just add to the fun

Hopefully tomorrow I'll get a good anniversary present

Delapidated
Don't be swayed by the reviews that have been obviously posted by the establishment. The place is in dire need of a complete refurb though that doesn't seem to deter the scores of crusty men that haunt it. Have only managed to find someone suitable once - a closeted copper, who persuaded me to go home with him abd have sex with somone he called his stepson. Adventure over, I have not returned but may do in the future when I'm feeling desperate again

Bilover obviously didn't read the other reviews in much depth! ALL of them rate the place on the older clientele at Pennine and not on it's decor.

OK it is a bit basic, but it is clean and "jumps". If you want private cabins with lockable doors don't bother to go there - you just have to join in with the rest.

It should be pretty obvious that you are not going to find many "twinks" there, but please don't judge the place entirely on your own taste and concede that others may have a more liberal age concept.
