...more interesting at weekends...
Der Faun is close to Rudolfplatz and it's U-Bahn connections to Lines 1,7,12 & 15. From Handelstrasse you pass through an arch into an inner courtyard and the entrance to the sauna.

The basement houses the changing area, cabins and porno cinema with a bar, two sauna cabins and a steam room on the ground floor. The bar has an external terrace for taking the sun and smoking. On the roof there is a sun-deck for nude bathing.

The few clientele, that were there during my visit on a weekday afternoon, were of mixed ages, but mainly in their forties and up. The facilities were extremely clean and receptionist/barman was very pleasant. I am sure that the premises would be more interesting at weekends or on a Bear Day, but were a bit “dull” on my visit as hardly any sex appeared to be taking place.

Friendly, attitude-free daddy haven
One of the smaller saunas in Cologne, you pay at the entrance (add 1€ each for a towel and slippers), then descend carefully down a narrow spiral metal stairs to basement level for the spacious changing room, lockers, sunbed as well as a cruising maze with cubicles of various sizes, a small porn cinema room, a sling room, an alcove with a large communal bed for the bolder guests etc. Back up on ground level (via a more conventional staircase) you'll find on your left the WC and then the lounge area and even a small inner patio where you can sit in the open air around a wooden table, weather permitting. On the Saturday I visited there were quite a few men there, mostly mature in their 40s, 50s and older with a sprinkling of more youthful 30somethings. It felt like a local hangout as many knew one another and there was lots of chatter and laughter about. As an outsider it will be up to you to overcome shyness and strike a conversation. Stating you are an "Auslander" usually does the trick and makes you interesting by default. On the right you'll find a small TV lounge, a moderately warm dry sauna and a hotter one, all lined up behind one long glass wall. At the end of this section there is the shower hall, a 4 head circular affair with the soap dispenser wall mounted on the side. Inconvenient but inhibits waste as you have to step away from the shower to take some soap. Clever. Next to the dispensers is the entrance to the (you guessed it - small) steam room. The Faun is generally clean, Kölners are a friendly lot, and they seem to be quite frisky. It's not that impressive compared with the much grander Babylon and Phoenix but it feels comfortable and just right for its target audience. Just do not expect young twinks here.
