Good, but could be better
It is a nice sauna, but it could be muuuuch better. It seems they are trying to make things garder for people to have sex. The sauna is not dark like before and the darkroom has an outside light that makes it not so dark inside. MAny times there is no hot water or the water is too hot. It also could be a little cleaner.

My favourite location

The Best In Rome
My visit was great
They explained I needed a 1 pass which is valid for all the clubs and bars in Italy so pretty good value I think.
Downloading the pass onto my smartphone entitled me to discounts at many bars.
I found a young crowd and enjoyed myself

Don't bother or bring own lube
Dont bother. the worst sauna i have ever been to. No lubricant provided and only one condom each. Is this the best way to encourage safe sex? anal sex without lube? Two tiny and not so fresh towels (table clothes like) provided. was a busy night but crowd was ok. hardly any good looking guys. Guys, just use Grindr or Jackd.

Unfornately the only sauna in Rome
It is a shame that Rome does not have a decent clean sauna like many other major European cities. EMC seems to be the only viable option available in the center of Rome. The management is probably aware of this and therefore don’t put much efforts and money in maintaining the place knowing that it will still attract men who cannot find a better alternative.

The place is very crowded on weekends especially Sunday afternoon with Italians and tourists, to the point that it is opened nonstop from Friday to Sunday night. The place could have a lot of potential if again it was clean and updated. It has several large pools, whirlpools, steamed rooms and saunas. The gym is very small and I have never seen it being used. The antiquated registration process for 1st time visitors can be cumbersome. It is due to the fact that you need to become a member. A first time visit (membership + entrance fee) can be quite expensive around 30 Euros (15 E for a one time reusable membership card and 15 for the entrance). Included in the price and a nice touch are the slippers given upon arrival. Towels are found inside the locker and limited to two per person, another oddity I thought for a large sauna.

The staff is not very welcoming. One of the two attendants at the front desk can actually be quite cold and unfriendly. Knowing how much tourists frequent this sauna it is shocking how little information orally or written (on the back wall of the reception for instance) is given in English. It is also shocking and totally irresponsible that condoms are not systematically given for free upon arrival.

You will find in permanence 2 or 3 masseurs (some quite handsome) wearing black t-shirts proposing their services. I have been told by two friends that the massages are OK. Don’t expect a professional and therapeutic massage. I guess you get it for the thrill of being handled by hopefully a well-built Italian man!

The place could be so much better if it was thoroughly cleaned and maintained. I have seen dry chewing gums on the side of the pools, traces of mildew, chipped paint on walls. The smell in the steamed rooms can be unpleasant and one of the two saunas was not functioning the few times I visited.

The pros of EMC are the people who frequent the place and its location. You will find a great variety of styles and attitudes. The atmosphere on a crowded day can be quite exhilarating. erotic and of course sexual. It seems that a lot of closeted Romans come there to unleash their libido but also tourists who want a different and more hands experience of Italian culture! The layout of the pools and the adjacent rooms is quite attractive and the bar is a nice place to take a break with snacks and beverages reasonably priced.

Let’s hope that a better maintained sauna opens in Rome to offer EMC a well-deserved competition or that management wakes up and update the facility.

Most gay establishments in Italy run under the "Umbrella" of "Arcigay" which is affiliated to the Italian Communist Party. This affiliation gives the establishment a "sort of protection" from police harassment etc. which used to occur in the past. Once you have paid for your Arcigay Card you can use is it in most gay places and your membership lasts for a year. Obviously some businesses may not wish to be part of Arcigay and in these places you may be asked to join as a member.

The EMC Europa Multiclub is affiliated.
